Bruge...or sometimes Brugge (Belgium)

723 Km's later we arrived, the last 503km was completed today. Due to the Train strike we missed out on the guided tour of the D-day beaches, however we did a quick detour to Omaha Beach when we left Bayeux this morning. We didn't have much time there, although we drove right down the beach (via a large pothole I didnt see, at least it wasn't my car)...took some photos of the beach in the cold wind. Then up to the cemetery for some more photos in the wind and rain.

Another exciting day was had by all in the car traveling on the wrong side of the road. We had to return the car by 6pm tonight so we didn't have time much time to spare. Most of the trip was done at 130kph, in a Peugott 206. Our GPS took us on a slight detour yesterday  (I know what Boyd will be thinking now)  through a city I cant remember the name of at the moment, as the GPS didn't know this section of the freeway. We were stopped and held up at 3 intersections by strikers who were blockading the roundabouts with car tires and wooden pallets. Eventually they let us through, but it did cost us a lot of time.

We were very fortunate to enter Brugge at peak-hour rush, and of course there was  lots of roads works going on, another new section of road the GPS didnt know, and some very scary intersections and roundabouts to make things even more exciting in the traffic. However we got the car back with 20 minutes to spare, and without adding any more dings or scratches to the car that it already had.

I decided to let AVIS refuel the car...they can clean the front passenger seat at the same time for Catherine.

Tomorrow is all about Belgium Waffles, Beer & Chocolate...not sure what order though.

I will also load upload the video of 'How to amuse yourself while waiting three hours for a train that never arives', which also includes my amazing juggling skills. Something to really look forward to!

  1. Why separate the Waffles, Beer and Chocolate? You're on Holiday! Live a little and put them all together.

Nothing says holidays like Choc-Beer Waffles!!!
