A Day in Brussels

Upon arrival in Brussels, and after locating our accommodation, across the road from the train station, we headed out to the market that was set up around the exterior of the station.

It was something to behold, you could buy just about anything there, from cloths, fabric, electrical goods, as well as fresh seafood, meat, fruit, veg’s, dried herbs, dried fruit, nuts not to mention the breads, cheese, cured meats and also the hot food.

We spent a good hour and a half just wondering around, bought some fresh fruit and dried fruit & nut mix for the train and had a bresen (hot dog) with onion and mustard for lunch.

We dropped our purchases off at the hotel and then headed into Brussels to see the “Pissing Boy”, we found him then got lost, in the rain, trying to get back to Central Station, so had to ask directions, just as well as we were headed in the wrong direction.

Where we stayed was not the best area, so we stayed at the hotel and had a drink and a dinner, Mark had a rum & coke, it was a triple so needless to say he was in fine form by the time we had dinner. We had a early night but it wasn't much use as there was a lot of singing and shouting going on into the late hours of the night, needless to say we didn't have a good nights sleep.

  1. The singing and shouting was OUTSIDE the hotel, from all the dodgy characters hanging around the area. We were told before we arrived this was not a safe area.
